MY EXTRA DIRTY MIND

BAD SEED FILE #1: SKELETOR

Skeletor

As the main villain in He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, Skeletor made life difficult for He-Man and his friends.

He-Man and Friends

Skeletor was, save for his appearance, more of a nuisance than a genuine terror. I only recently found out that his menace index was purposely lowered by the show’s writers so that he’d become more comical and more acceptable to little kids.

In fact, I don’t really know what Skeletor’s beef was with He-Man. Sure, he had the usual hunger for power. He wanted to take over Eternia. I get that. But I don’t know if he was really capable of lording it over the whole universe. Skeletor was all declaration and no follow-through.

Nevertheless, he is still remembered by my generation for reasons that are no longer very clear to all of us. Perhaps it’s because of his fashion sense. Maybe it was because of his irritating laugh. Or his whole scatterbrained entourage.

I don’t know if this helps boost Skeletor’s villain mojo but I learned that Skeletor did not really start out looking like a bag of mean bones. It’s a long and complicated story and I’d rather not get into the details. But it turns out that Skeletor was a warrior formerly known as Keldor. And this was how he looked:

Keldor

Hmmm. He didn’t look that bad, did he? I wonder what prompted him to starve himself? Perhaps he was envious of the way He-Man’s cheekbones stood out? (To rabid Skeletor fans: I’m only speculating.)

To this day, I also haven’t stopped wondering if the skeletal look applied to Skeletor’s hidden body parts. If it did, then I totally get why the creature was so insecure.

it’s funny because yesterday at market market, i was talking to some batchmates about Transformers and how we grew up with it. and how we’d love to have the other “cartoons” we grew up with made into movies.

we remember the HeMan movies with Dolph Lundgren, but maybe we can have Brad Pitt reprise the role for today’s generation?

but what we’d all love to see on-screen is the THUNDERCATS. Lion-O (it was a toss-up between a long-haired Eric Bana or it can be another really legendary Brad Pitt starrer). Michael Clarke Duncan as Panthro. And Angelie Jolie would make a really sexy Cheetarah.

    Pwede!

“Skeletor was all declaration and no follow-through” – reminds me of people who just don’t tire from blabbering all week long. Probably to hide their inefficiencies and effectiveness in work and all? Hmmmm. Or maybe , it’s their way of hiding the truth – that their hidden body parts have what you yourself call “skeletal look” and that be that case, such should definitely remain hidden for life! And I kid you not! :)

Eric! We ought to have a group blog where we can conduct fantasy casting or what. Who knows? Steven Spielberg might be clicking around.

    :)

Hmmm. I would rather see Fairuza Balk as Cheetarah. Lion-o? Hmmm. Who looks like a young version of Hugh Jackman? Orlando Bloom can reinvent himself as Lion-O.

Russell Crowe would make a nice Panthro. But then I don’t know if he looks good bald. Hehehe.

    faye!!

yeah. fairuza balk would be a “darker” and more angst-filled (and more cat-ty. hehe) cheetarah.

hugh jackman would do a good lion-o, but then marvel or whatever-that-billion-dollar-machinery-that-makes-all-this-movies -is-called might cry foul and call for the one-hero-at-a-time rule. in any case, he does a mean WOLVERINE. yeah, orlando bloom might be asked to beef up a little so he’ll be worthy to carry the sword of thundera.

ow, and maybe sean connery can be JAGA. hehe.

    we can DREAM, can’t we?

steven spielberg, if you’re reading this, make our dreams come true!

Eric, what happens if they indeed follow our casting?

    Could we sue them?

    Nyahahaha.

Yeah, you are so right! Sean Connery would make a great Jaga.

    :)

Anitokid!!! Hehehe. You’re so dead-on about real-life Skeletors. Believe me, I don’t want to see any of their hidden body parts either.

    Mito, how are you?

If you’re old then I’m super ancient!

Here I am running into my younger brother’s classmate (Eric) in cyberspace. My God, I saw this guy when he was but a wee boy.

As for you, Mito, you’re not even in your mid-20s yet so you’re like an embryo to me.

    Hehehe.

Faye, you know Eric (as in Bro Eric to us)? He was my schoolmate back then!

    Di nga? Small world!

Dundee, I think I knew Eric even before you did.

    I’m talking waaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyy before.

Like I saw him as a cute little kid running around in shorts. He’s actually my younger brother’s childhood friend. Yes, we hail from the same city.

    :)

Yeah, the world is indeed pretty darn small.
